ADDICTION The Eyeshadow Review & Swatches

Tuesday, November 10, 2015

ADDICTION (ADDICTION By Ayako) relaunched their famed single eyeshadows in August. It comes in 99 shades that is classified in 9 color collections; White / Black, Pink Beige, Yellow Beige, Pink / Purple, Yellow / Green, Matte Brown, Pearl Brown, Rose / Burgundy, and Accent. Some are new shades and some are the same as the old one.

Today I have 6 shades to share with you. This is going to be a long post.

The new Addiction The Eyeshadow comes in a clear casing (old one is opaque black) so you can pick desired one from your drawer without opening each to see color.

The shades I picked up are:
21 Love Affair (P)
29 Magic Flute (P)
62 Praline (M)
68 Nostalgia (P)
72 So Gorgeous (P)
80 Cry Baby (P)

Addiction The Eyeshadow offers 4 types of the formulation which gives different finishes. P is for Pearl, a glowing finish with various-sized shimmers/glitters. M is Matte, highly pigmented shade with matte finish. Others are S for Silky, sheer ones, and ME for Metallic.

So I start with pink ones. 21 Love Affair is a pink rose with gold shimmer. Sheer, satin finish. 80 Cry Baby is a cool-toned grayish pink with pink/silver shimmer. Love Affair is such an Autumn appropriate shade as it has a hint of mauve. Cry Baby is more pigmented and very glittery on the lid - closer to metallic finish. It is a pretty color to stare at but would be a difficult one to wear for me since it doesn't really match my yellow skin tone.

68 Nostalgia is a soft taupe brown with silver sparkle. It looks cool in tone in the pan but is warm on the skin. This shade is very sheer but buildable so I sometimes enjoy using it only for a simple, translucent taupe brown look. It also has the most gorgeous shimmer among these 6 shades. 72 So Gorgeous is a true brown with gold shimmer that is perfect for outer corners. It's nicely pigmented and its very fine shimmers are actually a mix of yellow gold and orange gold. Absolutely gorgeous shade, I quite like it.

29 Magic Flute is a shimmery pale beige. This shade is great to clear dullness on the lid so I apply it first all over the lid. It applies smoothly and helps to brighten up the eyes instantly, giving a subtle shimmery effect. The shimmers are extremely fine and less visible so it was difficult to photograph the actual look. I should take and post more pictures of Magic Flute soon. 62 Praline is another popular shade. I noticed that this is the only matte one I picked after purchase. It's so silky and pigmented. It's described as a bright camel shade, I find it as orange camel with sun light but becomes brown with a hint of red with my room light. The Addiction SA showed me using this shade under Magic Flute and they are quite lovely together. Will do a swatch of it in the near future as well.

Here's comparison to Rigoletto (old formula, reviewed here)

All of the shadows I picked last all day long without creasing or fading. They're all wearable on a daily basis (except Cry Baby for me, though.) so I really enjoy playing with them.
